Magera Moon Holton
Senior Product Designer at Etsy
Could you please describe what’s Etsy about?
Etsy is marketplace where people around the world connect to buy and sell unique goods. Since Etsy was founded in 2005, the marketplace has grown to over 30 million members from 200 countries around the world. There are over 1 million active shops, with over 20 million items listed. In 2012, there was $895M in total merchandise sales.
What are your responsibilities in Etsy?
I’m a product designer, currently focusing on improving our registration and checkout flows. I lead the design and UX and collaborate with Product, Engineering and the rest of the design team to create a clean and consistent user experience. A typical day for me could be sketching new feature flows, mocking up those flows in Sketch or Illustrator, observing user interviews, or pushing code alongside the engineers on my team.
How big is the team you’re working with?
Etsy is currently around 450 employees large, 24 of which are designers that make up our Product Design team. Every designer is also part of a team that works on specific areas of the site, which typically includes a product manager, a couple engineers, and a dedicated user researcher and product marketing manager.

What are the design challenges you’ll be talking about at the conference?
I’m going to focus on the challenges we’ve faced with reworking our checkout flow. We have big plans for what we want to do, but we need to be very confident that the changes we’re making are truly having a positive impact on the overall experience. That means breaking up our work into small, logical pieces so we can test, review, and iterate, while also not losing momentum.
What can attendees take from your talk?
The bulk of the talk is going over the importance of paying attention to the small details of a product. We’ve had some of the biggest gains or losses with very minimal changes to the product. Although the examples are specific to our work on the checkout flow, they’re things that should be considered when working on any product.
What do you look forward to at the conference?
Meeting new faces and getting hear how other companies face similar issues. I’ve also heard that Prague is a beautiful city, and that there’s some good beer I need to try. :)

Peter Fabor
UX Designer at AVAST Software
Could you please describe what’s AVAST about?
If you haven’t heard of AVAST, we’re only the most trusted name in antivirus, actively protecting more than 200 million PCs, Macs and Androids. Many people trust us because we’ve been protecting devices and data for 25 years, in over 40 languages (more than any other antivirus solution), on every populated continent in the world.
What makes the product successful?
Key factors are strong brand, localization in 40 languages and freemium model.
What are your responsibilities in AVAST?
I’m responsible for UI and UX of AVAST products.
How big is the team you’re working with?
I’ve been working very closely with our amazing graphic designer Martin Novak. All the designs are results of our cooperation with product owners.
Peter is currently working from The Surf Office which he co-founded in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
What are the design challenges you’ll be talking about at the conference?
I will talk about the redesign of AVAST main product – avast! Free Antivirus: how to simplify complex solution without deleting features (what could affect our „geek“ users) and how UI can increase sales (in-app cross-sells/up-sells).
What can attendees take from your talk?
We did many experiments and I don’t want to pretend, that we didn’t make any mistakes. I would like to analyze these mistakes in the way, that attendees could learn from them.
What do you look forward to at the conference?
Meet designers from other companies and have fun.

Could you please describe what’s Meetup about?
Meetup is the world’s best platform for organizing local Groups. Anyone can start a Meetup Group and find like-minded people in a matter of days. Our motto is „find your people.“
What makes the product successful?
Meetup has a vast network of members and Organizers interested in finding one another. Once we make the preliminary introductions, they make the Meetups happen with the help of our tools and support. It’s a self-sustaining cycle of community building.
What are your responsibilities in Meetup?
I’m the Lead User Experience Researcher. I oversee our usability testing program and other research initiatives.
How big is the team you’re working with?
I am on our strategy team of 6 people, but I work on various projects with several teams throughout the company.
Jaclyn, UX researcher at work in the lab
What are the design challenges you’ll be talking about at the conference?
I’ll be talking about the challenges of establishing an in-house usability lab, and the process for including user testing in project development.
What can attendees take from your talk?
Hopefully, attendees will get ideas for incorporating usability testing into their own process for fairly little cost.
What do you look forward to at the conference?
I’d like to meet other people who are just starting out doing usability testing, as well as those who are using research methods I have not yet tried.
